My Favorite Birth Supplies for Your Homebirth

Here are the supplies that my grandma recommended to her families and that I recommend as well when planning your homebirth. They help to make your experience run smoothly and most of these supplies can be found in the home.

Supplies to get before 36wks:

20 chux pads (at least)

2 large garbage bags (one for trash, one for laundry)

Metal or plastic bowl for the placenta 

Extra clean set of sheets for the bed (if planning to give birth on the bed) and a mattress protector

Nutritious snacks for all

Electric kettle, pot for boiling water or crock pot for heating warm compresses

Liquid calcium (for shaky legs)

Clean, soft baby clothes

Gown or robe for mom when in labor

Diapers for mom

Hand towels, washcloths and bath towels (4 of each)

Supplies to get for water birth:

Big bucket to carry water out of the tub after birth (or purchase a sump pump but those can be pricey)

New hose (make sure that it fits your sink or shower nozzle)

Faucet hose adaptor

Hydrogen peroxide (to clean blood off of carpet)

Speaker

Heating pad

Himalayan salt lamp, oil diffuser, massage oil, candles, lights

Cord clamp, scissors and candle for cord burning

Pads for bleeding and to lay under mom during birth

Camera and tripod (for birth video)

Fish net (to scoop out poop from the birth pool)

Golden seal (for healing the umbilical cord)
